Jonah Decorates our Christmas Tree

We decided to put up our Christmas tree early this year. It's one of those cheap artificial trees and we've had it for many years. (One year we had some mice make a nest in it.) After got it unfolded and fluffed up, without any prompting, Jonah started to "decorate" it. We aren't sure where he got the idea, because he was too young to do it last year.

He didn't bother with the actual Christmas tree decorations, though. Instead, he just found anything that was laying around on the floor and put it on the tree. Items included: half a plastic Easter egg, Shanna's scrunchy, a nerf football, a plastic candy cane, some dirty socks, a bib, a keychain, and a small beach ball.

Announcing Elisabeth Rose Davis

We want to joyfully announce the arrival of our beautiful baby girl, Elisabeth Rose Davis. She was born at 1:24 PM on July 16 2008. She weighted 8 lbs 12.3 oz. She and her mother both did great and are recovering nicely. You can see all of our photos on flickr. Here are a few samples:

It's A Girl!

This week, on Shanna's birthday we had our scheduled ultrasound for our new baby. We are very happy to announce that it is a healthy baby girl. I originally wanted to wait until the baby was born to find out the sex, but it was Shanna's birthday and for months now she has been telling me about these cute little girl outfits that she really wants to buy but can't because she didn't know if it was a girl. So now we know and she can start picking out Jonah's sister's wardrobe. :)

Jonah Starts Walking!

Jonah started to walk for the first time today. He actually stood up and took two steps about a week and a half ago, but hadn't really walked since then. Today he started to step away from furniture and walk by himself. He is unsteady, but learning quickly.

Kucinich's Cheney Impeachment Resolution Explained

Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich has introduced a resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. The resolution consists of 3 articles:

Article 1
Fabrication of a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in order to justify the use of the U.S. Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security.

The first article basically says that the Vice President deceived the country and the congress about the threat from Iraq's weapons of mass destruction to the U.S. for the purpose of bringing about a war with Iraq.

Article 2
...purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress...about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda in order to justify the use of the U.S. armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.

The second article, like the first, states that the Vice President deceived the country about the connection between Iraq & al Qaeda in order to bring about the invasion of Iraq.

Article 3
...openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and done so with the United State's proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security of the United States.

This is probably the most interesting of the three because basically it is saying that the Vice President violated international law by threatening to attack Iran. Under the U.S. Constitution, all international treaties that we make become the law of the land. Under Article II, Section 4 of the U.N. Charter it says, "All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state." By threatening violence against Iran, absent any real threat to the United States, the Vice President has broken this treaty and the law of the United States.

The Vice President was sent a letter by Kucinich on April 24 notifying him of the resolution.

What is Impeachment?

Impeachment provides a way to remove the President or Vice President if they have engaged in treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. The determination of whether to impeach is given to the House of Representatives and is based on a vote. If the vote is successful then the Senate is responsible for trying the impeachment and deciding on whether to convict. In a sense, the Congress is kind of like a police officer with the ability to investigate and arrest for a crime, and the Senate acts as the judge. If the Senate votes to convict, the Vice President can then be removed from office. After he is removed from office, and not before, can a criminal prosecution take place.

American Idol & Garage Sales

This is the first post on our PlanetDavis family website. As I write this we are just sitting around watching American Idol. Our friend Tyson came over earlier and ate dinner with us. We then walked around the neighborhood and helped our neighbor find their dog.

This last Saturday we had a garage sale. My main goal was to get rid of as much junk as possible and to pay for the classified ad we posted. We only ended up getting rid of about 1/3 of the stuff but we made about $300, so it was pretty successful. We also had a fun time doing it as several friends came over and hung out with us. One thing that was interesting is that probably %70 of our customers were Mexican (most likely undocumented) families.

So I have finally gotten around to starting our new web page. Right now it is mostly a place to point to our photos in addition to a link to this blog. Hopefully I will keep it up to date.
